Finnish design pioneer Alvar Aalto combined simple design with a craftsman’s expertise to create iconic pieces of home décor that are functional and sculptural. His asymmetrical wave shape vases for Iittala won the 1937 Paris World Fair and became his creative signature from architecture to glass. Now a globally recognized symbol of modern interior design, each unique Aalto vase is mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory, hand cut, and then polished several times. The vase can house fresh blooms, hors d'oeuvres and utensils or be left empty as a stand-alone art piece. Aalto wanted the end user to decide its purpose.
Light, airy, and alluring; the Iittala glass color "Linen" is one of timeless beauty.
A similar Aalto designed vase is part of the Kaufmann collection at Fallingwater.
